BRONKO NAGURSKI was named by the Associated Press as one of the 101 top athletes of the 20th century. Some have described Nagurski as the best football player to ever play the game. Playing offense, he was unstoppable. Playing defense, he was impassable. Players and coaches respected him, fans revered and worshiped him. After more than a century of football, he remains one of football's truly immortal players.
As a University of Minnesota Gopher, he was the first and only athlete to be named All-American at two positions in the same year. As a Chicago Bear, Bronko became one of the original 'Monsters of the Midway' and led the team to several national championships from 1930-1937 and 1943. In 1963, Bronko was enshrined as a charter member of the Professional Football Hall of Fame. Humble and hardworking, Bronko spent most of his life in International Falls, Minnesota, as one of the communities most illustrious and respected citizens.
